Protect Yourself from Sneaky Schemes, Scams, and Fraud
A Talk by Jeffrey Woodland (Program Specialist, Hawaii Department of Health, Executive Office on Aging)
About this Talk
It is SMP’s mission to help empower and assist kupuna, their families, and caregivers to prevent, detect and report healthcare fraud, errors and abuse through outreach, counseling, and education.
SMP Hawaii is expanding our role, to include help and information with non-health related scams and fraud that are increasing and putting kupuna at more risk than ever before.
Common scams include phishing emails, fraudulent investment schemes, and identity theft. Hawaii has reported over $17,000,000 lost to online scams. These scams often target Kupuna, who may be less familiar with digital security measures.
To protect yourself and your loved ones, it is crucial to be aware of scammers posing as medical representatives to steal personal information. It is important to be vigilant about checking your Medicare statements for any discrepancies or charges for services you did not receive. Staying informed about the latest scams in your community is also essential.
Join Jeffrey Woodland from Senior Medicare Patrol to learn more about protecting yourself and your loved ones from these threats at the “Protect Yourself from Sneaky Schemes, Scams, and Fraud” session.
